Obituary of Burnell Matthews

Burnell Matthews entered into eternal rest at 11:00 am on March 10, 2016, at his home in Baton Rouge, LA. He was an 89 year old native of Clinton, LA. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 19th at 1:30 PM at Days Chapel AME Church, Clinton, LA with visitation held from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM . Interment will be at Clear Creek AME Church Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Williams Matthews; three daughters, Roberta Sulcer, Baker, LA, Edith Spruel and Deloris Franklin, both of Baton Rouge, LA; two sons, Earnest Matthews (Geraldine), Ethel, LA, Arthur Matthews (Claudette), Clinton, LA; one sister, Zola Roberson, Baton Rouge, LA; three sisters-in-law, Clotiel Matthews, Baton Rouge, LA, Ruby Ventry, New Orleans, LA, and Adell McKnight, Hammond, LA; 29 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Fate and Lucinda Matthews; two brothers, Simon and James Matthews; one sister, Christine Knighten; and two sons, Leslie Matthews and Melvin Williams.
