1936-2017
On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, Sister Rosa Scott entered into eternal rest in the comfort of her home in New Orleans, Louisiana at the age of 81. Sister Rosa departed this life to receive the great reward promised to all who faithfully serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Rosa also lovingly known as “Pat or TeeRose” was born on April 24, 1936, in Clinton, Louisiana to the Christian Union of the late Jack Scott Sr. and Emma Williams Scott. She was the ninth of ten children. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by her Grandfather Reverend Louis Scott. She became a member of Mount Hope Baptist Church in Clinton, Louisiana. She was reared in Clinton, La. and educated at Louisiana Technical School. She graduated from Southern University and A&M College, Baton Rouge, La. with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education in 1963.
Rosa was a lifelong educator who built a foundation for success. Rosa was one of the first African American teachers to integrate the St. Bernard Parish School System in 1963 at Violet Consolidated School. She labored in love as an educator and retired in 1991 from Arabi Park Middle School in St. Bernard Parish.
Rosa was a long time resident of New Orleans, La. where she raised her children, Albert and Charmaine with Christian values. She lived a long useful life working in the community and church. She served in many capacities in the church, the last one as a member of the Deaconess Board of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church in New Orleans, La. She was adored by many, and a “Mother to all”, she will be greatly missed.
Rejoicing in her memory, she leaves to cherish Albert Franklin, III (Trinia) of Mobile, AL, (Son of the late Albert Franklin Jr) Charmaine Sonnier-Jones (Darnell) of New Orleans, LA. (Daughter of Edward Sonnier) Brothers: Frank Scott (Dorothy) of Sacramento, California and James Scott (Patricia) of Chicago, Illinois. Six Grandsons: Seth Sonnier, Seton Sonnier and Daniel Jones of New Orleans, Louisiana, Albert Franklin IV, Alexander Franklin and Anthony Franklin of Mobile, Alabama, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Rosa was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Emma Scott of Clinton, La., Brothers: Louis Scott and Felton Scott of Clinton, La., Edward “Ed” Scott of Jackson, La., Jack “Tute” Scott of New Orleans, La., William “Cap” Scott of Los Angeles, California and Herman”Dump” Scott of Santa Ana, California. , Sisters: Charlotte Gage and Mary “Sister” Sholes of Chicago, Illinois.
Family and Friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Mount Hope Baptist Church, 9654 Louisiana Highway 10, Ethel, Louisiana 70730, Wednesday December 20, 2017. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., followed by funeral service at Noon. Interment, following the service at Mount Hope Baptist Church. Funeral Services entrusted to Richardson Funeral Home, 11816 Jackson Street, Clinton, Louisiana 70722.
