Shelia Michelle Black was born November 24, 1963, in Tangipahoa, Louisiana. She was the fourth daughter of Leo Sherman Sr. and Mattie M. Sherman. Shelia was called home to receive her heavenly reward on the evening of Saturday, May 13, 2023, after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her family during her last days. Shelia accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend David Newman Jr. where she sang in the church choir. Shelia attended Greenville Elementary, Westdale Middle, and Istrouma High school where she was a devoted, well-known student who loved attending school and interacting with her classmates. Shelia worked at Shoney’s as a cook and was later promoted to manager. She was also employed by CATS as a bus driver. Shelia was fond of cooking traditional southern meals and listening to music. She was an avid sports fan who relished in watching a good football or basketball game. She took pleasure in family gatherings and spending time filled with love and laughter with friends. Shelia also enjoyed traveling, shopping, and living life to the fullest, her way. Shelia leaves to cherish her memories her son: John S. Black (Ashanti) and three grandchildren: London, John Moses, and Hannah of New Jersey; Four sisters: Fanesta Black, Felicia Hawkins (Gary Sr.), Monique Belezaire (Henry Jr.), and Krushonda Sherman; Two brothers: Stephen Sherman and Leo Sherman Jr. all of Baton Rouge, La; Nieces and nephews: Quinetta Black, Isizah Black (Chelsea) New York, Ikita Black, Dallas Black, Gary Hawkins Jr., Mattie Hawkins, and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Sherman Sr., Mattie M. Sherman, and sister Melaine Black Jeanpierre.
